Update on Boom Special Edition

It’s been a while since Malte announced Boom – Special Edition. He was a guest on stage at the 24th LuheCon and gave some deep insights into the project. The organizer recorded the whole thing, and the presentation has recently been posted online as a video.

In his presentation, Malte begins with a lot of background information on how the original shoot’em up Boom came into existence. Then he explains how his project of the Special Edition evolved from a “slight revision” into quite a challenge. Of course, the first step was to figure out how to turn the original—which was difficult to enjoy for various reasons—into a more accessible and exciting game.

Malte explains how he came up with the idea for the project and what challenges had to be overcome. In addition to a few expected problems, the whole thing increasingly turned into a Sisyphean task that sometimes brought him to the brink of a nervous breakdown.

Finally, there are a few gameplay scenes from the game that have never been shown online before.
